Wildfire Warning Ahead Of Summer
Last weekend, what appeared to be the early stages of a fire was discovered in one of our wooded areas on the estate near Banchory.
Thankfully, it was reported quickly by a member of the public and our team was able to attend, clear the site and ensure there was no ongoing risk of it reigniting. We also had a wildfire about 3 weeks ago as a result of a discarded cigarette from a vehicle that required the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to attend and extinguish.
It serves as a timely reminder that it doesn’t take much for a small, controlled fire to become something far more serious.
Incidents like the wildfire on the Dava Moor last summer, show just how quickly fires can spread, particularly during periods of dry weather like we have seen in recent weeks.
With study leave underway and the summer holidays approaching, we urge parents and guardians to ensure young people understand the serious dangers that fire poses to wildlife, property and life, so everyone can enjoy the countryside safely.
Please:
• Do not light fires of any sort on estate land, including BBQs or campfires.
• Dispose of cigarettes and matches responsibly
• Take all litter home with you
• Report any signs of fire immediately by calling 999
Please help us to look after the countryside and keep it safe for everyone to enjoy.
