Wildfire Safety Reminder

Wildfire Prevention Banchory

Over the month of April, Leys Estate experienced three separate incidents of deliberate fire setting.

In each case, prompt action by Scottish Fire & Rescue, our Estate team, and neighbouring residents helped bring the fires under control — limiting what could have been much more severe outcomes. Notably, one blaze came alarmingly close to the Banchory Sports Village.

With a very high to extreme wildfire risk period from 28th April to 4th May, we ask all visitors to enjoy the countryside with extra caution.

Safety Reminders:

  • ? Do not light open fires or use disposable barbecues in the countryside

  • ? Dispose of cigarettes and matches responsibly — ensure they are fully extinguished and never drop them on the ground

  • ?? Take all litter home — glass can start fires in direct sunlight.

  • ? Call 999 immediately if you see smoke or flames – don’t assume it’s already reported.

We also urge parents and carers to ensure young people understand the serious dangers that fires pose to wildlife, property, and life.

Thank you for your continued support in keeping our landscape safe for everyone.
